1. This Observation Tower is Also a Museum

2. The Space Needle Survived Two Fires

The Space Needle has survived not one, but two fires since it was built in 1969! The first fire that the tower endured was in 1992 where the base of the tower was destroyed. At the time, Ripley’s Gatlinburg Museum was located in the base and has since been relocated to down the street, still in downtown. The second fire was in 2016 when deadly wildfires caused massive damage in Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains. The Space Needle narrowly escaped the fires thanks to the efforts of the Sevier County Fire and Rescue teams.

3. There is an Arcade at the Base

Arcadia is an 25,000 square-foot indoor fun center filled with contemporary and classic arcade games, in addition to escape games. After you’ve enjoyed the views at the top of the tower, travel back down to the bottom and enjoy a few rounds of some games and win some awesome prizes.

4. The Space Needle is Open 365 Days of the Year

Whether you’re visiting downtown Gatlinburg on an average Tuesday or on Christmas Day, the Space Needle will be open! Open from 9 AM to midnight on weekdays and 9 AM to 1 AM on weekends, you have plenty of time to take in the Smoky Mountain views. Stop by early to see the morning sun warming up the mountains or come at night to see the stars and the lights of downtown. Holiday hours may vary but we recommend coming during the 4th of July and New Years to see some amazing fireworks!
