What to Expect at the Spring Parade in Pigeon Forge

marching band in a paradeThe Music in the Mountains Spring Parade is a celebration of spring in the Smoky Mountains. It showcases the rich musical heritage of the Smoky Mountains and spotlights some of the local entertainment. The Pigeon Forge spring parade features floats from theaters in the area, as well as high school marching bands, dance groups, choral groups and baton twirlers from not only Tennessee, but Ohio, West Virginia, Georgia and more. Kids love seeing the larger-than-life balloons that represent popular children’s characters, and there’s also a baseball balloon that is 10-feet in diameter and represents the Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge.

Who is the Grand Marshal of the Parade?

For many years, Dolly Parton served as grand marshal of the Music in the Mountains Spring Parade. In 2018, Parton stepped down as grand marshal to allow someone else to take her place. Cal Ropley Jr. has served as grand marshal since then. Although Ripken is not from Sevier County, he has played an important role in building the Pigeon Forge community with the opening of the Ripken Experience Pigeon Forge. Ripken Experience is a youth baseball facility and sports complex.

When is the Music in the Mountains Spring Parade?

Closeup of man playing guitarThe Music in the Mountains Spring Parade takes place the first Friday in May each year. The celebration, however, lasts all weekend long! The parade starts at 6 p.m. on Friday. Free bluegrass entertainment will be featured throughout the city on both Friday and Saturday.

Where is the Pigeon Forge Spring Parade?

The parade route starts near traffic light #6 and heads northbound, toward Sevierville, to traffic light #3, at The Track. Keep in mind that the parade takes up all of the northbound lanes, so all regular traffic is bottlenecked into the southbound lane.

Dollywood’s Festival of Nations runs through April 20, and its Barbeque & Bluegrass Festival follows. Don’t miss the chance to attend the theme park’s Flower & Food Festival either, which runs from May 8 through June 14.
